Burna Boy Protest

Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu MFR, who is known professionally as Burna Boy, has come under fire after he warned that nobody should ask him to join the nationwide protest against hunger and bad governance.

Explaining his reason for not joining the protest, Burna Boy sited the sour experience he had while participating in the October 2020 #EndSars protest.

Burna Boy, through his Official X handle wrote, “The fight in me Died on this day (10th October 2020). Ogun go doggy anybody wey call my name this time around.”

Netizens were provoked by his comment and quickly flew to the comments to express how they felt about his post.

@boymanage reacted, “Oga shutup.. Because they did u bad doesn’t mean u give up. You taught us to keep fighting in your songs but u dey here dey cap nonsense.”

Unwana Umoinwang said, “This is so insensitive to say considering the fact that you are a FREEDOM FIGHTER. Nelson Mandela wasn’t praised for fighting against evil at first, but he didn’t stop. If you stop fighting, it shows you’re not a BIG 7 like you claim to be. Please we need you ODG.”

@ug reacted, “Nobody dey call your name No be say you go even come outside to do anything your own na to wait for things to go bad so you go use am sing song. Nonsense.”

@Solomon_Buchi reacted, “You’re such an arrogant bræt who thinks everything revolves around your ego. Clearly they were aggrieved because if your lack of active participation in 2020, which you later paid for an electronic billboard in Lekki, I believe.

“It’s not about you, Burnaboy! You’re not helping Nigerians by joining the protest; you’re fighting your fatherland. Ogun, freedom fighter. Good musician, bad character and fake activism.”

Tweeter_Headmaster said, “This is insensitive and disrespectful. It would have been better if you hadn’t said anything instead of making such a statement. People are going through a lot and fighting for their future. Read what you wrote if it makes sense. You can do better, man.”

GWG.ng reports that the nation wide protest against hunger and bad governance began on Thursday (August 1) and is expected to run till August 10.
