The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a new directive stating that graduates of polytechnics and mono-technics must provide evidence of completing a mandatory one-year Industrial Training (IT) before they can participate in national service.

Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the NYSC Coordinator for Lagos State, disclosed this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos. She emphasized that the directive is aimed at maintaining the sanctity of Nigeria’s educational system.

Baderinwa explained that it has come to the attention of the NYSC that some graduates have been admitted into Higher National Diploma (HND) programs without completing the required one-year IT. “The one-year IT is a prerequisite for HND,” she noted.

According to the new policy, graduates must undergo and complete the one-year IT with proof of completion before proceeding for their HND. Institutions must verify this before admitting students into their HND programs.

“The directive will take effect from the next orientation camp, and we will not register any candidate who did not complete or undergo the process,” Baderinwa stated.

This measure is expected to enhance the quality of education and ensure that graduates have the necessary practical experience before entering the workforce. Prospective corps members who are HND graduates will be required to present evidence of IT completion before being allowed to register at any NYSC orientation camp.
