PDP Condemns Tinubu’s Silence Amid Protests
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for his refusal to address the nation amidst the widespread #EndBadGovernance protests across Nigeria.
The PDP demanded that President Tinubu speak to Nigerians about urgent measures to reduce petroleum prices, stabilize the Naira, and ensure the swift provision of food. These steps are crucial to reviving the productive sector, creating jobs, and restoring stability in the country.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba, the PDP expressed concern over President Tinubu’s silence, calling it a dangerous signal that heightens public anxiety and suggests the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is insensitive to the plight of its citizens.
“It is indeed worrisome that President Tinubu could remain silent as Nigerians are on the streets demanding good governance, protection, security, and welfare, which are the primary purposes of government,” the statement read.
The PDP highlighted the alarming actions of APC-controlled security agencies against unarmed protesters, noting, “The world is watching in horror as operatives of APC-controlled security agencies assault, shoot, and kill unarmed protesters, with thugs allegedly mobilized by the APC also unleashing violence on innocent Nigerians.”
The party urged President Tinubu to break his silence, address the nation, and reassure citizens on pressing issues, particularly the reduction of petroleum and food prices. They insisted that with transparent and innovative resource management, petrol should not exceed N200 per liter, especially with strategic investment in gas production.
The PDP also called on President Tinubu to begin recovering the over N50 trillion allegedly stolen by APC leaders, reduce tariffs on essential goods, cut the cost of governance, review luxury items in his administration, and redirect recovered funds to programs benefiting Nigerians.
Furthermore, the PDP demanded a thorough investigation into the reported killings of unarmed Nigerians by certain security operatives, urging security agencies to maintain high professionalism in protecting citizens.
The PDP also called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding in their quest for a responsive and people-oriented government, which they claim has been lacking since the APC came to power in 2015.
