The woman, whose name is Olaleye Folake Joy, was seen at a protest scene where she further explained to journalists how she transitioned from being a teacher in Lagos State to hawking soft drinks.

It was a very touching moment when a soft drinks hawker lamented the present situation of the country and how it has affected her in a viral video.

The woman, whose name is Olaleye Folake Joy, was seen at a protest scene where she further explained to journalists how she transitioned from being a teacher in Lagos State to hawking soft drinks.

“I can no longer hide my feelings. I’m here because I’m suffering. I’m starving. Sometimes I will not eat so that the little pure water I sell, I can use to feed my two children. My children also are hawking. I hope she’s here. I’m not happy that she is not here. If time has not gone, I can go and bring her. We are suffering,” she said, highlighting the desperate conditions she faces daily.

She went on to express her frustration with the education system: “Even to register at a public school, they will demand 20,000. Before we can be able to register her, and we thought the public school is also a free school. It’s no longer a free school. When you get there, they will bill you. Go and bring 30,000 or 5,000 for uniform. We have not seen anything. Please, help us to beg him. I’m suffering. I’m suffering. My children also are suffering.”

When asked about her profession, given the eloquence of her speech, she replied, “I was a qualified teacher before. I have my NCE. In fact, I’ve taught at Osibanjo School before. Free Liberty School. There is one at Obanikoro. I was there before. It was when Osibanjo entered the second term. They sacked the staff. Pastor …. at Holy Spirit Parish, Redeem, sacked all the teachers and put our own people there. That is why since then, it has affected me. Even my pension is still there. I’m also pleading to Osibanjo to look at me and go and settle it out. I need my pension also. I’m a professional teacher before. I have my TCE 2 and I have NCE. I went to Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education. I did part-time programs. School of Part-time Studies. First SOS. My matric number is PT07012502.”

Her heartfelt plea reveals the hardships faced by many in the country and calls for urgent intervention.
