The nationwide hunger protest continued in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday.

Recall that the protest started on Thursday across the country.

GWG.ng reports that the protest resumed in front of the University of Ibadan on Monday morning.

The protest was led by the Chairman of the Joint Action Front (JAF) in Oyo State, Professor Ademola Aremu, the Acting National Chairperson of the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN), Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, and other activists in the state.

Aremu, while addressing journalists, noted that the national broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu offered no solution to the problems facing the country.

He added that all the achievements highlighted in the national broadcast failed to translate into any meaningful improvement in the lives of the working people across the country.

Aremu further maintained that the national broadcast indicates that Tinubu will not be willing to accede to any of the demands of the protesters.

He stated that the group would commence immediate discussions and engagement with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the media, and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) towards building a Pan-Nigerian movement of the working people that will be determined and prepared to challenge the Tinubu-led administration and force it to meet the protesters’ demands.

He said, “Today, Monday, August 5, 2024, marks the third day our coalition has organized a peaceful protest here in Ibadan, Oyo State, to support the call for a nationwide mass action against hardship and hunger tagged ‘End Bad Governance Protest.’

The protest kicked off across the country on August 1, 2024, despite all forms of initial threats, intimidation, and propaganda by the Tinubu-led Federal Government.

Our decision to organize a peaceful protest on August 1 and 2, 2024, was to dare all odds and express our support for the call for a nationwide protest.”
