How To Impeach Akpabio, Senator Shehu Sani Explains

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has explained the only way to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Sani said that a senator must talk to their colleagues and gather enough support to start the impeachment process.

He warned that if the senator fails, they could be suspended until the next election. On X, Sani wrote, “Removing Akpabio is only possible if a Senator consults his colleagues and gets enough votes to initiate an impeachment. If the plot fails, the Senator may go on suspension till the next election. That is it.”

This comes after activist Aisha Yesufu called for Akpabio’s impeachment following his comments before the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. Yesufu said, “Dear Senators. It is time to impeach Godswill Akpabio. It is still one of you that will replace him as Senate President.”

Her call followed Akpabio’s remark that he would be eating while if Nigerians decided to go and protest against the hunger and bad governance in the land.

GWG.ng reports that the lecture from Senator Sani on how to impeach Akpabio is, however, not lost on many senators who, however, have not had the muscle to remove a Senate President since Senator Chuba Okadigbo in Year 2000.

The only other senator who left office before his term was Senator Adolphus Wabara who resigned in 2005 upon the dust of the Education bribe for budget scandal of that year.
