The 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has been named as a sposor of the #EndBadGovernance protest which kicked off on August 1 and will be arrested should he come into the country.

GWG.ng reports that though he was not officially named, sources in the security apparatus of the Federal Government mentioned Sowore as a sponsor of the #EndHunger protest that has shaken the fabric of the country.

Four other political actors from the Northwest were also named at a briefing organised by the security agencies of the government last Tuesday. This was disclosed when the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and heads of security agencies, met at the Defence Headquarters, on Tuesday.

After the security meeting at the Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS) was directed to arrest sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protests.

GWG.ng notes that the protest, which started peacefully across the country, eventually turned violent in some states, leading to the loss of lives and properties.

A senior immigration officer who confided in the Sun, while speaking on the directive, noted that Sowore was a notable sponsor of the protest who is now on the watchlist.

The immigration boss said they would be arrested if they stepped on Nigerian soil. “Any attempt they make to come into the country, we will be notified, and they will be picked up and handed to appropriate authority.”

She said the service had, in response to the protests, deployed more officers to borders, both land and airports, to ensure effective manning of the entry ports.

“The service has also stepped up surveillance to prevent foreign intervention in the country,” she said.

However, providing more information about those on the watch-list, a source at NIS said, “I can confirm to you that Sowore is definitely one of those on our watchlist. I saw his name among those forwarded to immigration to arrest on arrival in the country.”

GWG reports that Sowore has been very vocal in his support for the #EndBadGovernance protest on all social media platforms. Recently, he said there is no crime in flying Russian flags during protests.

He further argued that Christian leaders fly Israeli flags in churches, while a lot of people fly Palestinian flags in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle.
