Ganduje Named In New Dollar Saga As Kano Files Fresh Charges
The Kano state government has filed new corruption charges against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of diverting N57 billion meant for the state’s 44 local government areas mostly into dollars.
Ganduje is charged alongside Murtala Garo, Lamin Sani, and Muhammad Takai.
Ganduje and the ydefendants allegedly converted the funds into dollars for personal use, acquiring properties and assets, including a serviced apartment in Kano, commercial properties in Dubai, a multi-billion naira hotel in Abuja, and filling stations in Kano.
GWG.ng reports that this new Dollar case comes after earlier charges filed against Ganduje and Musa Lawan, former attorney-general, for diverting N240 million. The Kano government plans to call 143 witnesses to testify against the defendants.
Ganduje faces another suit filed on April 4, involving his wife, son, and six others, alleging corruption and misuse of funds. No court date has been set for the new charges.
GWG.ng reports that the new controversy over dollars surrounding Ganduje follows his alleged involvement in a dollar bribery case captured on camera. The former governor has claimed to be innocent of the charge and denied culpability in the famed grandollar case that has turned into a political drama in the country.
