Nigeria Hunger Protests: Organizers Set Date For ‘Part Two’
The organizers of the nationwide hunger protests have announced that the demonstrations will resume on October 1, following the initial round of protests that took place from August 1 to 10, addressing the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and a prominent organizer of the protests gave the October 1 date for the resumption of the Nigeria protests during an interview on News Central TV.
Sowore disclosed that the organizing teams have been holding ongoing meetings to strategize the next phase of the protests.
“The protests will resume at the beginning of October and might even start earlier, depending on situational variables,” Sowore stated, emphasizing the determination of the organizers to continue their advocacy.
The protesters are demanding several key changes, including the reversal of the removal of fuel subsidies, an increase in the minimum wage to N250,000, the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and the adoption of a new constitution for Nigeria.
Despite an appeal from President Bola Tinubu to end the demonstrations, the organizers have rejected his plea, labeling his speech as unconvincing and insufficient in addressing the concerns of the Nigerian people. As a result, the protests are set to continue, with October 1 marked as the potential restart date, a date that is significant as the nation’s independence anniversary.
