Afrobeats Star Asake Addresses Fans’ Requests for More English Lyrics (Video)
Afrobeats sensation Ahmed Ololade, widely known as Asake, has responded to fans who have been urging him to incorporate more English lyrics into his songs.
The calls for a language shift intensified following the release of his highly anticipated third studio album, “Lungu Boy,” which features collaborations with global music stars such as Wizkid, Stormzy, and Travis Scott.
While the album has been met with widespread acclaim, some fans expressed difficulty connecting with Asake’s music due to the predominant use of Yoruba in his lyrics.
In response, Asake addressed the issue during an Instagram Live session, where he explained that singing in Yoruba feels more natural to him, even though he is perfectly capable of performing in English. He emphasized that his music is an authentic expression of his cultural roots, and fans who choose to support him should embrace his use of the Yoruba language.
Watch as he speaks in the video below;
“If you want to be my fan, you have to be a fan of my Yoruba lyrics,” Asake stated, making it clear that his linguistic choices are an integral part of his artistic identity.
