Nigerians Mourn As Popular Gospel Singer Passes On

A wave of shock has swept through social media after young gospel singer, Ajayi Aduke Morounkola popularly known as Aduke Gold, passed away, on Monday.

One of her colleagues, Esther Igbekele, confirmed her demise in the early hours of Tuesday, in a short post on her verified Facebook page.

She wrote: “A GENERAL HAS FALLEN. ADUKE GOLD”.

According to a source close to the late gospel singer, Aduke died after battling a two-month illness.

The source added that the gospel singer died on Monday, August 12 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

The Ilesha-born singer was initially known as Aduke Penkele. 

She grew up in the Ogba and Badagry areas of Lagos and was from a polygamous home

Aduke Gold came to stardom with her live performance at the first remembrance of the late gospel artiste, Baba Ara. 

Professionally, she started music in 2004.  

One of her famous tracks “Nitori Ogo” which she released in 2021 also projected her more into the limelight. 

Apart from music, she was a child educator with a passion for teaching young children. 

Aduke was a graduate of history and international relations from Lagos State University. 

She also had her second degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Lagos.

Gbenga Ogunleye wrote, “We bless God for her impactful live, although it was short.”

Oyebamiji Ezekiel said, “Very sad news, I saw her last at the Apostle Elijah Akintude praise concert in osogbo.”

Abimbola Olajumoke Adejoke said, ‘I watched her life on tiktok yesterday afternoon.”
