Amaechi Tinubu 2027

After laying in the shadows for the longest time since the advent of the Fourth Republic, Rotimi Amaechi, popularly known as the Lion of Ubima is roaring against the 2027 political permutations of President Bola Tinubu

Rotimi Amaechi has emerged from the shadows to temporarily disrupt the hegemony of the Bola Tinubu political camp ahead of the 2027 elections.

The move came after a Rivers State High Court sacked the Nyesom Wike-inspired caretaker committee of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC and with it, stripped the FCT minister his envied political fame of control of the two major political parties in any state.

GWG.ng reports that the control of the two biggest political parties in any state was a feat achieved by Wike after he worked to enthrone Bola Tinubu as president and was rewarded with the appointment of his men as caretaker committee officials of the APC following the sack of Amaechi’s loyalists.

However, the court judgment reinstating Emeke Beke, an Amaechi loyalist as state chairman has stripped Wike and Tinubu of the support of the local executive of the party in Rivers State leaving the Tinubu-Wike alliance grasping for breath in the PDP where Governor Simi Fubara is also struggling for control.

GWG.ng reports that the restoration of the Emeke Beke led state exco of the APC in Rivers State not only restores the political ascendancy of Chibuke Amaechi, but puts a major blow to the calculations of the Tinubu camp in harvesting the goodwill of the two major political parties in Rivers State ahead of 2027.

Wike who was a major facilitator in the victory of Tinubu in the Rivers State presidential election and presently serving as the FCT minister had in the recent past projected Tinubu for an encore in 2027.

Remarkably, despite their riotous differences, Wike and Governor Simi Fubara who is of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had been singing the same song of Tinubu winning the state again in 2027.

However, with the court judgment sacking the pro-Wike led state caretaker there are now assertions that Fubara following the Supreme Court judgment affirming his victory could also go for a dash (with or without the support of Amaechi) to deny local support for Tinubu ahead of 2027.

Following the 10-day EndBadGovernance protests that captivated the North which formed the bulk of the support for Tinubu in 2023, the optics for him in 2027 according to many political pundits does not look good in the North and hence the developments in Rivers State bear significance to the president.

Rivers State is about the fourth richest state in electoral votes in the country, and a victory in the state is of great significance to every contender.

Acknowledging the ascendancy of Rotimi Amaechi over the political configuration in Rivers State, the reinstated chairman of the party, Emeke Beke told Arise News Television on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 that he had no shame describing the penultimate governor of the state as his boss.

“Rotimi is the leader of the party and is still the leader of the party. Rotimi is my boss and is my leader.”

GWG.ng reports that Amaechi, famed as the Lion of Ubima, had been largely out of the political permutations in the state and at the national level after he was defeated by Tinubu in the contest for the presidential ticket of the APC in 2022.

Amaechi who even as speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly shaped the political configurations within the state and at the national levels has embarrassingly been left in the cold since the advent of the Tinubu administration.
