BREAKING: Tinubu Sacks Aide Facing EFCC, ICPC Probe

President Bola Tinubu has replaced the Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The President nominated Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Executive Chairman of the commission.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, on his X page on August 19, 2024.

Professor Usman will take over from Jalal Arabi, who is currently under investigation by the EFCC and ICPC for alleged mismanagement of Hajj funds. The investigations also involve the commission’s secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora.

Professor Usman is a respected scholar with degrees from the University of Madinah and Peshawar University in Pakistan.

He has extensive experience in Hajj operations, having previously served as the Chairman of the Kano State Pilgrims Board, where he successfully managed the largest group of state pilgrims in Nigeria.

The nomination of Professor Usman is now awaiting confirmation by the Senate.

The statement read thus: ā€œTinubu sacks NAHCON chairman, nominates Professor Saleh Usman as replacement

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).ā€

ā€œUsman will replace Jalal Arabi, a former permanent secretary who is facing EFCC and ICPC probes for alleged mismanagement of Hajj funds. Arabi is being probed along with the commission’s secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora.

ā€œThe nominated NAHCON chair is a renowned scholar with qualifications from the University of Madinah and Peshawar University, Pakistan.

He is also well-grounded in Hajj operations, having served as the Chairman of Kano State Pilgrims Board, and successfully superintended the operations of the largest quota of state pilgrims in the country.

The nomination is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
