Social media critic Daniel Regha, known for frequently targeting celebrities, particularly musicians, has sparked heated discussions with his criticism of a N1 billion donation made by Mr Deji Adeleke, the father of popular Nigerian singer Davido, to a church.

Regha expressed his belief that such a large sum should not have been given to a church in a country where many people are struggling to survive.

He suggested that most of the money would have been better spent creating jobs for the unemployed. Regha stated, “Giving to the church is fine, but donating over a billion to any church, in a country where millions are starving & struggling to survive doesn’t seem right. Davido’s dad should’ve used about 80% of that money to create employment opportunities.”

His comments have stirred a wave of arguments, with some people criticizing his stance and others offering their own perspectives on the issue.

One user, @localwerey, sarcastically responded, questioning the audacity of such an opinion. @AdventurousAlec pointed out, “One thing people fail to understand is, you can’t tell someone how to spend their money, whatever he or she does with their money is their business.”

Others defended Mr. Adeleke’s decision, with @Watchman_4U stating, “For a man to give to the church, you have no idea what he has gained from fellowship there,” while @Ohijeme added, “People have the right to channel their resources according to their convictions.”

Some users, like @YayaOseni, echoed Regha’s sentiment, arguing that the money could have provided jobs for thousands of people, saying, “1 billion Naira can provide employment to over 20,000 people. I pray God reject the money.”

The discussion continues to generate diverse reactions, with opinions ranging from strong support for Regha’s viewpoint to outright rejection of his criticism.

Other reactions:

@AuntyAmara: You don’t have to wait to be a billionaire, what have you contributed with your widow’s mite?
