Breaking: NLC Convenes Emergency Meeting As Police Quiz Ajaero
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has summoned an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in response to the police invitation of its President, Joe Ajaero, over alleged links to terrorism.
The meeting which was scheduled for 8 a.m. on Tuesday was expected to be held at the Olaitan Oyerinde Hall, Labour House, with all affiliate and state chapter executives expected to attend.
This development followed Ajaero’s summons by the police on Monday, accusing him of “criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, reasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.”
The police invitation, signed by ACP Adamu Mu’azu, alleges Ajaero’s involvement in ongoing investigations and demands his presence at the IRT Complex on Tuesday, threatening an arrest warrant if he fails to comply.
The NLC has vehemently rejected the police’s explanation for the recent raid on its national secretariat, demanding the release of detained members and seized documents.
The Congress has also denounced government interference in its internal affairs, including proposed tenure reductions for trade union leaders.
