Nigerian footballer Paul Julius, aged 20, has tragically passed away following a fatal car accident in Cyprus.

The promising young striker, born in Jos, Nigeria, had recently joined Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni FC, where he was expected to make a significant impact.

Paul Julius was involved in a devastating car crash on the Paralimni-Protaras road in the Famagusta District on Tuesday morning. According to reports from Cypriot publication Philenews, the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when Juliusā€™s vehicle collided with another car traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the other vehicle, a 74-year-old man, is reported to be in stable condition after being hospitalized. Unfortunately, Julius did not survive the crash.

The Famagusta Traffic Department has launched an investigation into the accident and is appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.

Julius’ passing has sent shockwaves through the football community. Having only recently joined E.N.P. earlier this summer, the club had high hopes for the talented forward, who had previously played in the Egyptian Premier League for Gaish.

In a heartfelt statement, Enosis Neon Paralimni FC expressed their sorrow over the loss of Julius. “It is with deep sadness and pain that we express our sincere condolences on the unexpected loss of our footballer Paul Julius,” the club said. “The tragic news of his death has shocked us all. Despite the hardships and sufferings he faced to join our family, he remained steadfast and determined to fulfill his goals. His memory will live on in our hearts, and his absence will be felt. We are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

The loss has resonated beyond Julius’ club, with fellow Cypriot teams and international football organizations also expressing their condolences. AEL Limassol, a fellow Cypriot club, shared their sympathy: “The president, the members of the Board of Directors of AEL Limassol, and the staff express their deepest condolences to the family of ENP and his close friend, footballer Paul Julius, for his unjust loss. His memory is eternal.”

Greek side APOEL also joined in mourning the young footballer’s death, stating: “The company APOEL FOOTBALL (PUBLIC) LTD expresses its sincere condolences to the family of ENP and the relatives of football player Paul Julius, who was killed in a car accident early today. He was only 20 years oldā€¦ His memory is eternal.”

Paul Julius’ untimely death marks a significant loss for Nigerian football, as many had hoped he would soon commit to representing Nigeria on the international stage. The football world mourns the loss of a bright young talent, whose potential was tragically cut short.
