A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to share a touching moment where she saw Nigerians showing affection indiscriminately, to inmates in a moving van.

According to her, the moment she witnessed proved that Nigerians have a deep sense of conscience.

The lady who captured her experience in a video recounted that she was heading out when she saw a Black Maria filled with inmates coming out of a magistrate’s court who were likely being transported back to their various correctional facilities.

She continued, “No one asked who was inside, or whose child, or brother, or sister, or what tribe, or what religion was in that vehicle.

“At this point, everyone knew the system was often unfair and lacked transparency, with innocent people potentially caught up in it.”

The lady added that what struck her most was the way people showed affection to the inmates by giving to them.

“The majority of those who gave were the poorest, like the poorest of the poorest, hawkers, agberos, and others who might not even be sure where their next meal would come from.

“Yet, they saw this as an opportunity to support the inmates, hoping for a better future.”

Highlighting a man in a reflective vest, she noted how he stood out amongst the affectionate Nigerians who gave to the inmates.

“He was collecting contributions from people in vehicles, those that could not come down from their vehicles. Drivers, passengers, who couldn’t get out.

“He would take what they gave, chase after the Black Maria, and hand it to the inmates. It was really an emotional moment for us.

“Well, we contributed what we could by giving something to a hawker to pass along.”

She added, “And I just thought this could happen to anybody. It could be my brother, it could be my sister, it could be a cousin, it could be a relation.

“It may just be someone, someone that is wrongfully accused. It could even be me.

“Guys, let’s continue to support these individuals, both in kind and in our prayers.”
