Riot Erupts In Sokoto Town After Emir’s Murder (Video)

A riot has erupted in Sabon Birni, Sokoto State, with residents clashing with the police over the m8rder of Alhaji Isa Bawa, the emir of Gobir in Gawata town of Sokoto state.

A viral video circulating on social media captured a chaotic scene of an exchange between the residents of Sabon Birni and the police.

GWG.ng earlier reported that Emir Bawa was abducted along with his son on his way to his native town of Sabon Birni near the border with Niger after attending a meeting in the regional capital Sokoto

After three weeks in captivity and a video released to plead with the Nigerian government to help secure his release, Bawa was murdered in captivity.

Sequel to this, a ransom of N60m and five motorbikes were paid for Emir Bawa’s son’s release.

Consequent upon the Emir’s death, youths in Sabon Birni took to the streets to burn tyres to express their grievances. This led to a clash between them and police officers who tried to quell the riot.
