Media Frenzy Over APC Governor’s Defection To PDP (Photos)

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was the subject of social media speculations on Saturday after he was seen in a gathering of mostly Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governors gathered for the wedding of the daughter of Gov Agbu Kefas.

GWG.ng reports that the wedding came on the sidelines of the meeting of PDP governors at the same city where a resolution to back Governor Simi Fubara was also taken.

Governor Usman Ododo who won his Supreme Court victory was caught up in the frenzy of the wedding and was attired in the same clothes as other attendees.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State shared images from the gala night that followed the wedding and the meeting of the PDP governors on his X handle, @GovernorAUF, on Saturda.

The post was supposed to highlight the cultural heritage of Taraba State. One of the pictures sparked widespread reactions, as Ododo was seen in the company of several PDP governors. Fintiri’s post read: “Yesterday, after our @OfficialPDPNig Governors Forum meeting, @GovAgbuKefas hosted a vibrant Gala Night showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Taraba. From the colourful displays to the captivating performances, it was truly a night to remember. Thank you, Taraba, for your warm hospitality.”

The unexpected presence of Governor Ododo, who had only just secured a Supreme Court victory hours earlier, raised eyebrows among Nigerians. Many questioned why an APC governor would attend a PDP event, with some even speculating about his political affiliations.

Social media users on X were quick to react. One user, @PrinceOfIgala, questioned, “Is that not Ododo, who got the Supreme Court judgment yesterday? I will be glad if that is Ododo who got Supreme Court judgment yesterday I am seeing there. @officialABAT how market?” Another user, @Ayotund1, insinuated a political shift, commenting, “Ododo dey PDP be that o.” Other users echoed similar sentiments, expressing surprise and curiosity about Ododo’s presence at the gala.

GWG.ng reports that Governor Ododo’s appearance at the event came shortly after the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Muritala Ajaka, who had contested the outcome of the Kogi State governorship election. Ajaka had challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Ododo as the winner of the November 11, 2023, election. However, his petition was dismissed by both the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The Supreme Court’s five-member panel unanimously upheld Ododo’s victory, rejecting Ajaka’s request to void the election.

The timing of Ododo’s appearance at the PDP event, following his judicial victory, has left many wondering about the implications for his political alliances and the potential impact on Kogi State’s political landscape.
