Chelsea’s striker, Nicholas Jackson, has delivered a sharp response to recent criticism from former Super Eagles star Mikel Obi, following a standout performance in Chelsea’s 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their English Premier League (EPL) clash on Sunday.

Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal last summer, has faced scrutiny for his inconsistent form, most notably after Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season. Mikel Obi, a former Chelsea midfielder and EPL champion, was particularly vocal in his criticism, suggesting that the club should consider replacing Jackson with a more reliable goalscorer.

“You need a striker who knows how to find the back of the net, and that’s something we’re lacking in Jackson,” Mikel said, expressing his frustration with the young striker’s inability to convert key chances. “At Chelsea Football Club, we need a top striker who can consistently get us goals.”

Jackson, however, answered his critics in spectacular fashion during the match against Wolves. He scored Chelsea’s fastest EPL goal since 2017, finding the net less than one minutes into the game. He also set up Cole Palmer for a goal, helping the Blues secure their first win of the season.

After the match, Jackson took to Instagram to directly address Mikel Obi’s remarks, writing, “@mikel_john_obi shut your mouth don’t talk shit. We are killing ourselves for Africa.”

The 23-year-old forward has been under pressure to prove his worth since his £32 million move to Stamford Bridge. Despite some inconsistent performances, Jackson has shown flashes of brilliance, with Sunday’s match marking a significant step forward in his Chelsea career. Before the game, Jackson had played 45 matches for Chelsea, contributing 17 goals and six assists.

With his latest performance, Jackson has sent a clear message to his critics, signaling his determination to succeed at Chelsea and silence the doubters.
