Dr George Moghalu

Chief George Moghalu, a founding member and former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially resigned from the ruling party.

Moghalu, who has been a key figure within the APC, cited personal reasons for his departure, which has been the subject of speculation for some time.

The long-anticipated resignation was confirmed on Tuesday, August 26, 2024, through a letter addressed to the chairman of Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The letter, titled “Resignation of Membership of the APC,” was also copied to both the Local Government Area (LGA) and State Chairmen of the party.

In the brief letter, Moghalu stated, “I bring you good wishes from my family and formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the APC, effective today, August 26, 2024.”

Emphasizing that the decision was personal, Moghalu expressed his hope that the relationships he has built over the years with party members would remain cordial. “I wish you and all the members of the party the very best. Please, accept as always the assurance of my best regards,” he concluded.

Moghalu, who also served as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has not yet disclosed his next political move, but his exit from the APC is expected to have a significant impact, especially in Anambra State, where he has been a prominent political figure.
