The Rivers State Police Command has intensified efforts to track down the kidnappers of Aribibia John Fubara, a Director with the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service, following a daring kidnap operation in Port-Harcourt at the weekend.

According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the kidnap of Fubara took place on Saturday, August 24, 2024, around 8:20 pm. The kidnappers, numbering about six, arrived on a speedboat through the Okrika Waterfront near the Marine Base area of Port Harcourt. They fired several shots into the air, creating a scene of chaos and fear.

After carefully identifying their target, the assailants forcefully whisked Fubara, a namesake of Governor Simi Fubara away, fleeing the scene in their boat towards an unknown destination. At the time of filing this report, Fubara, who is also a Knight of Saint Christopher in the Anglican Communion, remains untraceable, with no contact yet established by his abductors or the reason of the kidnap.

Emmanuel Fubara, the victim’s younger brother, confirmed the kidnapping and stated that the incident has been officially reported to the police. He expressed hope for his brother’s safe return.

The Rivers State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, acknowledged the incident and assured the public that the command is actively pursuing the case. “The command is aware of the incident, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed the tactical units to ensure that the victim is released unhurt. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book,” Iringe-Koko stated.

As the search for Aribibia John Fubara continues, there is growing concern within the community, with many hoping for his swift and safe return.

GWG.ng cannot confirm if the kidnap victim is a relative of the governor or was targetted because of his name.
