During his speech, Shettima expressed his surprise at being invited to speak again, given the controversy that surrounded his appearance at the 2022 NBA conference.

GWG.ng reports that In 2022, Shettima attended the NBA conference dressed in an outfit that quickly became the subject of national conversation. The then-Vice Presidential candidate appeared in what he humorously described as a “Mango Park” suit paired with sneakers, an unconventional choice that stood out among the typically formal attire of the event.

The outfit sparked a social media frenzy, with many Nigerians sharing their thoughts on the unusual combination. The moment became so iconic that celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was seen filming Shettima as he made his way through the event.

Recalling the incident at this year’s conference, Shettima said, “When I wore sneakers to the last NBA conference, I thought I would never be invited again. The talk that followed was so widespread, I assumed that would be my last appearance at this event.” He went on to express his gratitude for being invited back, noting that despite the unexpected focus on his attire in 2022, the NBA still saw fit to include him in this year’s event.
