El-Rufai on Social Media

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has responded to people criticizing him on social media. He said their insults and negative comments don’t bother him because they have no solid reasons behind them.

El-Rufai made it clear that he doesn’t care about how his posts are interpreted or misunderstood on social media.

In a post on his verified X account on Saturday, he said, “Interpret, misinterpret, or reinterpret my posts however you like. I frankly don’t give a damn. Abuse and insult with no basis. By all means, pass your judgment in ignorance and bigotry. Nothing will change. What will be will be, in sha Allah.”

El-Rufai faced a lot of criticism on social media after he made a post last Saturday about the problem of envy and hatred among Nigerians. He used the example of Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, becoming the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate to explain his point.

He said that Nigeria’s leadership struggles are due to a decline in competence and commitment among political leaders.

He added, “Societies succeed or fail depending on personal and institutional qualities. The virus of envy must be confronted and reduced if not cured, for Nigeria to achieve its greatness and lead the Black Race. I pray this can be realised.”

In response, Banks Omishore, an aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, criticized El-Rufai, saying he lacked the moral standing to talk about envy and hate. Omishore accused him of showing such behavior toward former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

GWG.ng reports that Omishore who served Saraki as a social media aide was easy to pick on El-Rufai given the undercurrents that played out while his principal was Senate President.

El-Rufai has faced political challenges since leaving office. In August 2023, the Senate refused to confirm his nomination as a minister. His successor, Governor Uba Sani, claimed in March 2024 that El-Rufai left behind a large debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 pending contracts.

Additionally, in July 2024, the Kaduna State House of Assembly accused El-Rufai of diverting N423 billion in public funds during his time in office.

See some reactions below on Social Media to the claims by El-Rufai:
@KadunaResident: This tears is becoming too much. When you start wailing, you have been defeated.

@EmirSirdam: Small Stout Adolf Hitler, you should be in The Hague answering for all your crimes against southern Kaduna.

@yungchief88: Elrufai come and explain what you mean by “they will go back in body back”.
This was Elrufai threatening Foreign Election Observers in 2019.
Is this the kind of person you want as your President? Same person who said they have been the Fulani herdsmen blood money so they will stop the killing.

@realTobiAkinbo: El Rufai the kneeling legend.. Whom have you greeted by kneeling like a woman today?

@BountyDwags: What will BE will BE after you paid for all the innocent lives lost during your administration..

@IU_Wakilii: Statement of fact , those of us who are with you know why we are with you, what they say will never change anything.

@AbbaM_Abiyos: Where is the N423 billion of Kaduna state ??

@DanKatsina50: We all know you are a hero. No one can change that

@MalachyOdo1: You give a damn, apparently.

@dough_nald: You did your best while in government, and those familiar with Kaduna and Zaria can attest to your hard work for the people.
However, your leadership was not without blemish; there were many things you got wrong.
I hope you use your time outside of government to reflect and strive to be a better person.

@NkyEzenwa: You were used and dumped by APC after questions were delegated to you….They did you wrong sha…
