Kidnap Of Delta Lawmaker’s Wife

A failed kidnapping of Mrs. Christy Uroye, the wife of a current lawmaker in the Delta State House of Assembly, occurred late Monday when the kidnappers’ getaway vehicle crashed. Unfortunately, prior to the crash, the assailants had already killed a security guard and Mrs. Uroye’s driver.

GWG.ng reports that the potential victim is the wife of Hon Augustine Uroye, a Delta State lawmaker.

The incident took place on Jakpa Road in Uwvie Local Government Area on Monday, September 2, 2024, at around 6:30 pm.

During the attempted kidnapping, the attackers killed Mrs. Uroye’s security personnel and the driver of the SUV she was in. Despite the violence, Mrs. Uroye managed to escape when the attackers’ vehicle crashed while they were trying to flee the busy road.

Mrs. Uroye is now receiving medical treatment at a nearby private hospital, and she is reported to be in stable condition.

The police have confirmed the attempted kidnap of Mrs Uroye but said that the kidnapping attempt was “not successful.” Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State, SP Bright Edafe, mentioned that the operation did not achieve its goal. He also noted that three AK-47 rifles were found in the attackers’ vehicle.

Edafe added that he could not immediately confirm whether the security personnel were killed in the failed kidnapping attempt.
