Chidiebere, a local taxi driver, captured the frustrations of many taxi drivers in Abuja as he recounted the toll the fuel scarcity has taken on his daily life and livelihood.

“I can’t do any work since morning; I’m stuck at the filling station,” Chidiebere lamented, visibly exhausted from hours of waiting in line for fuel. For drivers like him, the scarcity isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s a major disruption to their ability to earn a living.

With fuel prices soaring to as much as ₦1,200 per liter, drivers are left in a difficult position, struggling to balance the cost of fuel with the fares they charge passengers. “If we buy at ₦1,200, how much are we going to tell the passenger to pay?” Chidiebere asked, highlighting the dilemma facing taxi operators who must either pass on the increased costs to passengers or absorb the loss themselves.
