Fire Guts Specialist Hospital
A section of the Yola Specialist Hospital in Adamawa State was engulfed in flames on Tuesday night, marking the second devastating fire at the facility in three years.
The fire in the Yola Specialist Hospital which caused significant damage to valuable medical equipment, has been described by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri as an unfortunate incident and a potential act of sabotage.
Governor Fintiri, who visited the scene immediately upon returning from a trip outside the state, expressed his deep concern over the incident. He assured the public that the state government would swiftly repair the damaged section to ensure that clinical services are not disrupted.
“This incident is not just unfortunate but suspicious,” Fintiri remarked. “We will investigate thoroughly, but rest assured, the damage will be addressed immediately so that our healthcare services remain uninterrupted.”
The fire in the Specialist Hospital reportedly broke out late Tuesday night, making it difficult for responders from around Yola to control the blaze before extensive damage occurred. Despite the severity of the situation, the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, sought to calm fears by noting that the affected area was primarily a storage space for equipment. He assured the public that the fire would not impact the hospital’s ability to provide healthcare services.
“The building that was affected was a passive storage for equipment,” Commissioner Tangwami explained. “While the loss is significant, it will not hinder the provision of health services to the public.”
