Tinubu’s Man Puts Multichoice To Task Over Abortion Campaign
Barrister Jesutega Onakpasa, a prominent but sometimes controversial cheer leader in the camp of President Bola Tinubu has taken Multichoice Nigeria, provider of the DSTV television service to task over what he claims is the promotion of illegal abortion through its Big Brother Naija reality show.
Onakpasa brought the issue to the fore in a statement made available to GWG.ng in which he questioned an advert promoting Lydia IUD Smart, an intrauterine device.
He particularly questioned the term, ‘remove and give birth’ as contained in the advert.
His assertion is against the background of the fact that abortion is prohibited in Nigeria.
He said:
“What is the meaning of “REMOVE AND GIVE BIRTH AT WILL” in this “Lydia IUD Smart” advert, running on Big Brother Naija, currently airing on MultiChoice DStv? “Remove and give birth at will” sounds very much like ABORTION rather than CONTRACEPTION.
“Well, ABORTION is still patently illegal and a criminal offence in Nigeria and it’s totally unconscionable that MultiChoice keeps breaking the law, corrupting public morals and surreptitiously trying to introduce abominations such as LGBTQ and transgender through the backdoor into our country.
“Over to our rather quite indolent government agencies, especially the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC.”
A mail sent by GWG.ng to Multichoice on the issue was yet to be responded to as at the time of this publication.
GWG.ng reports that the development is bound to add another layer of controversy to the activities of Multichoice following controversial hikes in its charges and also the transmission of the BBNaija reality show which several Nigerians have condemned as full of lurid content.
The company has been accused of promoting pornography at the expense of intellectual vibrancy among Nigerian youths and for which reason many Christians and Moslems have converged in taking umbrage against the reality show.
Onokpasa was a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council that successfully navigated Tinubu to power in 2023.
