Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has gotten a new appointment as chairman of the upcoming African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI) Conference, set to take place this October in Abuja.

The announcement of the new appointment for President Obasanjo was made by Mr. Samuel Sanusi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), during a news conference held in Lagos on Friday.

The prestigious event, organized by BSN, will be hosted at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre. ABLI, which was initially launched in 2010 during a special African Union prayer breakfast in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was attended by African heads of state and government officials. The initiative seeks to promote value-based leadership across the continent, anchored in biblical principles.

Sanusi highlighted the importance of ABLI’s mission, stating, “Our goal is to cultivate a generation of principled leaders characterized by honor, integrity, capacity, and competence.”

This year’s conference, themed “Value-Based Leadership: Model for Africa”, marks the 11th edition of the ABLI gathering. In addition to Chief Obasanjo’s chairmanship, a host of distinguished guests are expected to attend, including Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

The conference will attract delegates from across Africa, Europe, America, and Asia, as well as General Secretaries and CEOs from various African Bible Societies, reinforcing its global significance.

With such a high-profile lineup of speakers and participants, the ABLI Conference promises to be a significant platform for fostering transformative leadership across the African continent.
