A video showing members of a given community somewhere in Nigeria, thronging to a broken-down fuel vehicle to scoop fuel, has sparked concern on social media.

In the video, male and female members of the community, predominantly youths, were seen running with different vessels such as basins, buckets, and Jerricans to scoop fuel from the broken down fuel vehicle which was seen lying by the side of the road.

As they carried off the fuel, excitement was written on their faces gushing like miners who had just discovered gold.

Nigerians have flooded the social space to express concern on why Nigerians would take such risks at the expense of their lives.

See some reactions gathered from X.com:

@DAMIADENUGA asked, “Why do Nigerians love to endanger their lives so much?”

@cezykay reacted, “This is very risky!!!!”

@daggspete recalled, “I still can’t forget a similar one I saw in Benue 6 years ago.

This was how all of them were scooping happily like they have discovered a diamond until a passing vehicle’s exhaust pipe ignited a flame. All of them were roasted on the spot including a pregnant woman. Let’s learn!!!

@flourish007 said, “This goes beyond poverty. Many have essentially signed their own death warrant; what else could explain this situation?”

@BenRmc commented, “Small fire dropped there and they’ll all barbecue’d”

@onlinegu… said, “People are just existing in Nigeria only few are living so their lives obviously mean nothing to them. They believe all d!3 na d!3.”

Samuel @SamuelIse3 opined, “Check very well not all of them have cars or generators but why are they engaging their lives.”
