The Nigerian Army has arrested a woman identified as Grace Markus, accused of working as an informant for kidnappers operating in Taraba and Benue States.

Grace Markus is alleged to have provided crucial information to kidnappers and played a role in the recent abduction of Malam Saidu, who was taken from his home in the Vesee community, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to military sources, Markus is also accused of collaborating with her boyfriend, a notorious kidnapper known as Chen, who has been linked to multiple kidnapping operations in border communities between Taraba and Benue states.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, Captain Oni Olubodunde Markus, confirmed the arrest in a statement released at the weekend.

He explained that following the abduction of Malam Saidu, troops of the 6 Brigade launched an intelligence-led operation in Sondi village, Wukari LGA, Taraba State, which led to the capture of the suspect.

“Miss Grace Markus was apprehended for reportedly assisting kidnappers and other criminal elements in the area,” the statement reads. “She has been confirmed as the girlfriend of the notorious kidnapper Chen, who has been terrorizing the region. The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to determine her full involvement in these criminal activities.”

Grace Markus’ arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to crack down on kidnappers and restore peace in the affected regions of Taraba and Benue.
