Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has confidently declared the determination of his new party to stop a second term for President Bola Tinubu by winning the 2027 presidential election. He has also declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is dead.

Speaking during the inauguration of the NNPP Secretariat in Katsina on Saturday, September 7, 2024, the former Kano State governor who was first elected governor of Kano State on the platform of the PDP expressed optimism that the NNPP was ready to take over the presidency and other key positions in the country.

Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, made his bold declaration while visiting Katsina to offer condolences to the Yar’Adua family following the death of their matriarch, Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua.

“The NNPP is fully prepared to succeed in 2027,” Kwankwaso said. “I want to remind you all that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already dead. We were once in the PDP, but after they deviated from the right path, we chose to move on,” Kwankwaso added in a tone that was indicative of a move to stop President Tinubu from a second term.

He urged Nigerians, particularly women and youths, not to be swayed by temporary promises like food or money during future elections, stressing the importance of choosing a leadership that would truly transform the country.

Kwankwaso further commended the party’s leadership and stakeholders in Katsina for their dedication in renovating the NNPP’s state secretariat, calling it part of the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections. He also pledged to assist a young boy, Abubakar Ibrahim, who is suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Yammawa, Katsina State.

In his remarks, NNPP Katsina State Chairman, Armaya’u Abdulkadir, emphasized the party’s ongoing efforts to educate the electorate on the new NNPP logo, which symbolizes Kwankwaso’s strong commitment to education for all Nigerians. Abdulkadir highlighted the need for grassroots sensitization to ensure party members understood the importance of this new logo as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

This comes amidst ongoing criticisms from other political figures. Former senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, recently declared the PDP “dead” in a social media post, aligning with Kwankwaso’s sentiments regarding the opposition party’s decline.

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, Kwankwaso’s remarks further indicate the NNPP’s intention to solidify its position as a major contender in Nigeria’s political landscape.
