Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has debunked claims that Nigerian football sensation and African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen, demanded a hefty £500,000-a-week wage from Chelsea.

Mikel made this revelation during his podcast Obi One, where he defended Osimhen against accusations of greed that have surfaced from some football fans.

The allegations stemmed from Osimhen’s decision not to join Chelsea during the recent transfer window, with many speculating that the forward’s salary demands were the primary reason for the failed deal. However, Mikel Obi, who shares a close friendship with Osimhen dating back to when the striker joined the Nigerian national team, has set the record straight.

“Victor is not greedy. He never asked for £500,000 a week from Chelsea. He just wants to play football and get what he deserves,” Mikel stated in the podcast, addressing the rumors head-on.

Mikel further hinted that while he is aware of the true reasons behind Osimhen’s decision not to join the London club, it had nothing to do with excessive wage demands. “I know what happened, and it’s definitely not about being greedy,” Mikel said, dispelling the narrative that Osimhen’s motivations are purely financial.
