Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has stated that the state government is currently unable to implement the new minimum wage because it is waiting for a guideline from the Federal Government.

Speaking on Tuesday in Asaba at a thanksgiving service held in honor of his Principal Secretary, Mrs. Lyna Ocholor, who recently retired from civil service, Governor Oborevwori explained that the state wants to avoid errors in calculating the adjustments needed for the new minimum wage. Mrs. Ocholor also previously served as Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly.

The governor emphasized the importance of precision, saying, “We are waiting for the chart of the new minimum wage because we don’t want to make any mistakes.”

Oborevwori expressed his gratitude to the staff of the State Assembly for their support during his time as Speaker of the 6th and 7th Assemblies. He recalled that, during his leadership, the Assembly staff never went on strike, and he acknowledged their dedication and cooperation.

“I am very happy to be in your midst today. It is also an opportunity to appreciate the staff of this Assembly. I remember on May 11, 2017, when I became Speaker, it was challenging. But the good thing is that none of the staff went on strike for the six years I was Speaker,” he said.

He also shared words of advice, urging workers to be diligent in their duties: “Anywhere you are working, be good. Anything you are doing, be good. As a civil or public servant, you must do what you will be remembered for.”

In her remarks, Mrs. Ocholor thanked Governor Oborevwori and the staff of the Assembly for their support during her time as Clerk. She acknowledged that her success in the role would not have been possible without their cooperation.
