Olori Folashade Ashley Ogunwusi, the fourth wife of the Ooni of Ife, has explained her choice to refer to her newborn son as the ‘Crown Prince.’

Earlier reports from GWG.ng revealed that Folashade and Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni, welcomed their first child together.

Upon announcing the birth on social media, Folashade called the baby ‘Crown Prince,’ which led to some confusion and criticism from followers. This reaction stemmed from the fact that the Ooni already has two sons from previous relationships: Tadenikawo, born to his first estranged wife Olori Naomi, and Oreade, a twin born to Olori Tobi Philips.

In response to the backlash, Folashade addressed the issue in a post on her Instagram page. She expressed gratitude for a smooth pregnancy and acknowledged her husband’s unwavering support throughout. She wrote, “Oba tón gbọ ẹkún aládúrà, ẹsẹ Olódùmarè. Thank you Olodumare for an amazing pregnancy journey which was very sacred for my husband and I, successfully kept away from the public eye to the glory of Olodumare.”

Folashade also praised her husband, referring to him as her “CROWN JEWEL” and expressing deep love and appreciation. She thanked her sister and personal assistant for their support during the pregnancy, noting their roles in managing social media and maintaining privacy.

She further explained her choice of title, stating that it reflects the blending of royal heritage from both sides of the family: “A Prince from Mother side of Ooni Adagba Royal compound of Lafogido ruling House and A Prince from Father side of Ooni Agbedegbede Royal compound of Giesi ruling House combined to the royal throne of Oduduwa.”

Folashade concluded with a message to other mothers, encouraging them to name their children with positive aspirations and to not be swayed by others’ opinions. She said, “As a MOTHER, call forth and speak life to your children, call them what you want for them and what you want them to be. Let your children know who they are and what they are destined to be without prejudice. It is your duty and right as a MOTHER. Do not apologize for speaking life into your children.”
