Jide Kosoko, Others React As Prominent Yoruba Filmmaker Dies
Veteran Yoruba filmmaker and producer, Shina Sanyaolu, has passed away.
Before his death, Sanyaolu was a well-known film producer and director in the Yoruba segment of Nollywood.
The cause of his death is still unclear at this time. The news of his passing was confirmed by Bolaji Amusan, the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria. He shared his grief on Instagram, saying, “Sleep well uncle Shina Sanyaolu.”
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko also reacted to the sad news, expressing how much Sanyaolu positively impacted the lives of those around him. Kosoko wrote, “Shina Sanyaolu was just not a remarkable man, he was a beacon of kindness and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Kosoko praised Sanyaolu’s deep love for the arts and his unwavering support for Nollywood, stating, “Shina was always there for us, offering a helping hand and opening doors where there seemed to be none.” He also reminisced about Sanyaolu’s kindness to Nollywood actors who traveled to the UK in the 1980s, saying Sanyaolu made them feel at home, offering them a place to stay and even driving them around despite his busy schedule.
Kosoko ended his tribute with heartfelt words: “Shina, your generosity knew no bounds, and your spirit touched countless lives. You were truly a rare gem. The world feels emptier without you, but we take solace in knowing that your legacy lives in the hearts you have touched.”
Sanyaolu contributed to several notable films, including The Honourable, Two Wives, and Omo Olosan.
