The goal was scored by Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, who took advantage of a mistake by John Stones and Ederson. They failed to clear a ball properly, allowing Wissa to head into an empty net from close range.

Despite the early goal causing some trouble for City, Haaland helped them regain control. He scored his first goal after Kevin de Bruyne was tackled in the Brentford box, and Haaland drove home the loose ball.

Haaland was playing despite a personal loss earlier in the week. He scored again before halftime, outmuscling Ethan Pinnock to reach a long pass from Ederson.

Haaland came close to making history by being the fifth player in English top-flight history to score three consecutive hat-tricks, and the first since 1946. He nearly achieved this but was denied by Brentford’s goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, who saved one shot. Haaland also hit the post with another attempt and couldn’t get enough power behind the rebound to score.

Although Haaland’s father Alfie was in the stands and the crowd was cheering for him, and even though City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, kept him on the field despite the upcoming Champions League match against Inter Milan, Haaland had to settle for two goals in this game.
