New Drama Trails Suspension Of Dino Melaye From PDP
Not unexpectedly the suspension of Senator Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by his local community has provoked the kind of drama that is associated with the flamboyant politician
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijumu has strongly denied the suspension of Senator Dino Melaye, dubbing the reports as fake.
Hon. Olorunmaiye Olabode, who is the PDP Chairman in Ijumu Local Government, said in a statement that the suspension “will never stand.” He also said the letter was “ridiculously and hurriedly written,” pointing out mistakes in the day and date.
The statement stressed that the party is following its constitution and rules. It mentioned that no materials were given for the Ward Ad hoc Congress on July 27, 2024, and no LGA Congress happened in Ijumu to choose a National Delegate. It also criticized the State Congress held in Lokoja on August 31, 2024, calling it a “failed kangaroo arrangement.”
According to the statement, outside forces are trying to use the suspension letter to destabilize the party and remove Melaye, who is described as the “voice of the voiceless” in Kogi State.
The Ijumu PDP challenged those accusing Melaye of wrongdoing to show proof of his alleged anti-party activities. They pointed out that he has made important contributions to the party, including financial help and giving out membership cards.
However, the Ward Party Executive Committee of Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 had announced Melaye’s suspension on the same day. They accused him of refusing to cooperate with the disciplinary committee and of being involved in anti-party actions. This decision was signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Secretary Yodson Dayo. They referred to Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which allows members to be disciplined.
Despite these different reports, the Ijumu chapter of the PDP is firm. They stated, “We categorically and unequivocally state that the said purported letter of expulsion is a forgery and cannot stand.”
