Atiku Abubakar Makes Generous Donation to Maiduguri Flood Victims (Video)
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has made a generous donation of N100m to support victims of the recent flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The devastating floods have displaced over 500,000 people and caused widespread damage across the region.
Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, made the announcement during a visit to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum at the Government House on Sunday, September 15, 2024. His visit was part of a solidarity mission to express his sympathies to those affected by the natural disaster.
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, the former Vice President’s donation was described as a testament to his ongoing commitment to humanitarian causes. The statement read, “Atiku Abubakar’s N100 million donation underscores his dedication to supporting communities in distress, especially during this critical humanitarian emergency.”
Ibe further revealed that Atiku has called on his friends and associates to join in contributing to the relief efforts, urging them to offer additional financial support to help alleviate the suffering of the flood victims. “This is consistent with Atiku’s history of humanitarian efforts, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic when he mobilized resources to address urgent national needs,” Ibe added.
Governor Zulum expressed his deep gratitude to Atiku for his support, emphasizing that the people of Borno appreciated the show of solidarity in this difficult time.
Atiku was received at Maiduguri airport by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (SAN) and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN), both representing Borno North and Central respectively. Accompanied by family members and associates, he shared a video of his visit to Governor Zulum on his X (formerly Twitter) account. In his message, Atiku wrote: “I commiserate with the government and people of Borno State over the catastrophic flooding that has caused the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displaced hundreds of thousands from their homes.”
Atiku assured the people of Borno that they are not alone in this challenging time, pledging his full support towards rebuilding efforts in the flood-ravaged state.
