The Edo Salvation Group has justified the endorsement of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate in the forthcoming governorship election by the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.

The group in a statement issued by its national coordinator Imman Ekpe traced it to the impressive labour relations between the outgoing governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki and labour unions in the state.

It would be recalled that workers in the state under the aegis of the NLC and TUC had last Friday staged a demonstration at the Government House where they openly asked workers in the state to vote for Ighodalo for him to continue with the good welfare and industrial relations packaged by Governor Obaseki.

Noting the good deeds of Governor Obaseki which Ighodalo has pledged to sustain, ESG said:

“We note that Governor Obaseki been proactive in considering the welfare of workers as Edo State became the first state in the country to implement a minimum wage of N70,000. That was in May well before the workers even entered into full negotiation with the Federal Government. The new wage is paid promptly on the 26th of every month at a time that many other states are not even faithful in paying the N30,000 minimum wage.

“We also note how Governor Obaseki has been setting aside N200m monthly for the payment of gratuities for workers who retired during the period of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his predecessors.”

“It is as such not surprising to us that the two labour centres without coercion took their fate in their hands by electing to back a governor who will sustain the good deeds that they are enjoying now,” the group concluded.
