By Benjamin Abioye
Midfielder Ngozi Okobi of the Super Falcons of Nigeria has announced the arrival of her first child.
She took to Instagram to share the news, expressing her gratitude to God and celebrating her new role as a mother with hashtags like #godbepraised, #iamamother, and #newmom.
The 30-year-old footballer posted heartfelt photos of her baby bump, reflecting on her pregnancy journey. Prior to this, Ngozi had kept her pregnancy private, sharing only occasional updates about her fitness and daily life on social media.
Ngozi’s husband, Ahmed Okeoghene, whom she married on December 9, 2017, in Delta State, has been supportive throughout her football career. She continued to play as a midfielder for nearly seven years before the birth of their child.
Ngozi Okobi’s career includes representing Nigeria in numerous international tournaments. She participated in the 2010 Under-17 Women’s World Cup, the 2010 WAFCON, the 2012 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, and the 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2022 WAFCON tournaments. She also competed in the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups.
Despite her notable achievements, Ngozi was excluded from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup squad by former coach Randy Waldrum and has not returned to the national team since.
