BREAKING: Yahaya Bello Arrives EFCC, Expects Humane Treatment
Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, has accepted an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following weeks of speculation regarding his whereabouts.
In a statement issued by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, it was revealed that the former governor decided to honor the invitation after careful consultation with his family, legal team, and political allies.
“Governor Bello, who holds deep respect for the law and established authorities, simply sought to protect his fundamental rights and ensure due process,” the statement read.
It was further disclosed that a competent court has been hearing the matter, with Bello’s legal team representing him at every session. The former governor, who maintains his innocence, sees this as an opportunity to clear his name, stating that he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear.”
Accompanied by prominent Nigerians, Bello reportedly arrived at the EFCC headquarters to meet with officials from the anti-graft agency. His media office expressed hope that the EFCC would treat the former governor with respect and professionalism, in line with his fundamental rights as a Nigerian citizen.
“We will provide details of his engagement with the EFCC officials in due time,” Michael added.
This development comes after the Court of Appeal ordered Bello to appear before the court for arraignment without further delay. The court also placed restrictions on the former governor, preventing him from taking any legal action in the case until he is formally arraigned.
The Court of Appeal’s ruling overturned an earlier judgment from the Kogi State High Court, which had offered some protection to Bello. The former governor had been in hiding for several months following an attempted arrest by the EFCC at his Abuja residence.
Yahaya Bello is currently under investigation for allegedly misappropriating over ₦80 billion during his eight-year tenure as governor of Kogi State. The case has drawn widespread attention, with many awaiting the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.
