2024 NECO Examination result

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2024 June/July Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with 60.55% of candidates securing at least five credits, including crucial subjects like English Language and Mathematics.

During a press briefing at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, provided detailed insights into the results, highlighting the remarkable performance of candidates and its significance for their academic progression.

Out of the 1,376,423 candidates who registered for the examination, 1,367,736 sat for the test, comprising 702,112 males and 665,624 females. This balanced gender participation reflects the inclusivity of the national exam process.

According to Prof. Wushishi, 828,284 candidates, or 60.55%, passed with five credits or more, including English and Mathematics—key qualifications required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions. In total, 1,147,597 candidates, representing 83.9%, earned five credits and above regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics.

Examination Malpractice Sees a Sharp Decline

On the issue of malpractice, Prof. Wushishi noted a significant reduction in the number of candidates involved. He revealed that 8,437 candidates were caught in various forms of examination malpractice in 2024, a 30.1% drop from the 12,030 recorded in 2023.

However, mass cheating remains a concern. The registrar disclosed that 40 schools across 17 states were implicated in mass cheating, with one school in Ekiti State recommended for de-recognition due to widespread cheating in two core subjects and one science subject. These schools will be summoned by NECO for further investigation, and appropriate sanctions will be enforced.

Furthermore, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting over misconduct, including poor supervision, aiding and abetting malpractice, extortion, negligence, and, in some cases, absenteeism and drunkenness. These supervisors were identified across 12 states.

Candidates Urged to Check Results Online

As part of the announcement, Prof. Wushishi encouraged all candidates who took the exam to check their results online.

“The 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results are hereby released to the public. Candidates can access their results by visiting the NECO website at www.neco.gov.ng using their examination registration numbers,” Wushishi stated.

The release of the SSCE results marks an important milestone for students nationwide, as many prepare for the next phase of their academic journey, particularly those seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
