Edo: Makinde Explains Absence from PDP Rally For Ighodalo (Video)
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has explained his absence at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally in Edo State ahead of the upcoming governorship election, set for September 21, 2024 saying he is in full support of the party candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo.
Gov Seyi Makinde was absent at the rally organized to gather support for the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie.
The PDP’s campaign in Benin City on September 14 saw the attendance of key party figures, including Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 PDP vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, Acting PDP National Chairman Iliya Damagum, and several governors from the party. Despite his absence, Governor Makinde emphasized his unwavering commitment to the party’s cause.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrading of Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on September 18, Makinde clarified that his absence was due to previously scheduled engagements in Finland and Sweden, which were arranged before the rally date was announced.
The Oyo State governor expressed his full backing of Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy and called on Edo voters to support the PDP’s candidate in the forthcoming election. He emphasized that internal party differences should not overshadow the importance of securing a win for the PDP.
“I am 100% with Dr. Asue Ighodalo,” Makinde stated, underscoring his dedication to the party’s electoral success. “Even if we have issues among ourselves, I don’t think this is the right time to fight. We have an important election on Saturday in Edo State, and we should just rally around and deliver our candidate.”
