A young Nigerian man who gained notoriety for abandoning his date with a ₦69,000 bill at a Lagos restaurant has come forward with shocking reasons for his actions.

The incident, which started as an ordinary dinner date, quickly turned into a viral social media drama after the man, identified as @olayinka.brain on TikTok, fled the scene, leaving his date and her friend to settle the hefty tab.

According to reports, @olayinka.brain had invited the woman for a lavish dinner at an upscale restaurant in Lagos. Both parties showed up with friends, and the group indulged in premium dishes and expensive drinks, racking up the sizable bill. However, when the time came to pay, the man and his friend excused themselves, claiming they needed to step out, only to never return.

After waiting in confusion for hours, the woman was left humiliated and eventually had to pay the ₦69,000 bill herself. The story quickly went viral, with many criticizing the man’s actions.

Amid mounting online backlash, the man took to social media to share his side of the story. In a now-viral post, he admitted to abandoning the date but provided his reasons for running away.

“I met you online, and when we arranged the date, I sent you ₦10,000 instead of ₦500 for transport fare,” he explained. “You didn’t tell me you were bringing your friend along. I had taken herbs expecting a fun time. You and your friend ordered meals worth ₦50,000, while my friend and I ordered asun and Hollandia yoghurt. You don’t know my account balance, so how did you expect me to stay?”

His explanation has created even more debate on social media, with users weighing in on who was at fault. While some supported his decision to leave, others criticized him for not communicating better and abandoning the women in such an embarrassing situation.
