Prince Henry Okojie, popularly known as the husband of star actress, Mercy Johnson claims he has escaped an assassination attempt

The federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East constituency in Edo State, Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, more popularly known as the husband of Nollywood diva, Mercy Okojie has reportedly survived an assassination attempt.

Okojie was allegedly visited by armed men suspected to be political thugs at his home in Uromi early Friday morning, a day before the Edo State governorship election. The incident was confirmed by his media aide, Michael Ihaza, in an official statement.

The statement explained that the attackers arrived at the lawmaker’s residence in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate number—PHC 253 FF. Disguised as police officers, they claimed to have an appointment and gained entry into the living room.

Fortunately, the security personnel assigned to the lawmaker intervened, preventing the attack from succeeding. “The armed thugs, who posed as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claiming to be on an appointment and entered the sitting room,” the statement noted.

When the security personnel intervened, two of the armed attackers fled, leaving behind the driver and another suspect. Both are currently being questioned by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.

GWG.ng reports that Mercy Okojie had been the subject of controversy after she came out openly to campaign for the APC candidate in the forthcoming election with friends and fans putting her on the spot over her support for the ruling party despite the pains in the land.

Many, however, defended Mercy Johnson er on the claim that her husband is a member of the APC, a narrative that is bound to be escalated with the reported assassination attempt.
