Nigerian artiste David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has criticized a statement made by the police regarding voter conduct in the ongoing Edo State gubernatorial election.

GWG.ng reports that the police had advised voters to leave the polling stations immediately after casting their votes. This message was delivered by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Frank Mba, who is overseeing election security in the state. In an interview with Channels Television on Saturday morning, Mba urged residents of Edo State to vote and then return home without lingering at the polling units.

He also announced that vehicular movement would be restricted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day. Mba stated, “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty.”

Davido, who supports the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his disapproval of this directive. Responding to the video on his X account, Davido sarcastically wrote, “Lol, go where,” questioning the police’s advice.

Some have wondered why Davido is so involved in the Edo election. Addressing this, he explained that his late mother was originally from Edo State. “My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha .. @inecnigeria shame on you I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us,” he added, expressing frustration with the electoral process.
