The National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Edo State, Prof. Rhoda Gumus, has pledged to maintain integrity during the governorship election, emphasizing that she will not accept bribes.

In an interview on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’, Prof. Gumus asserted that her strong reputation would discourage any attempts to offer her bribes. She also provided key details about the election schedule, stating that voter accreditation will begin at 8 a.m. and voting will end at 2 p.m. However, she reassured that anyone already in line by that time would still be able to vote.

“I am in charge of Edo. I want to do the right thing, even though I will not be everywhere. We will conduct this election in a free, fair, and credible manner. I cannot take bribes no matter how much. I don’t have to take billions to do what is right,” said Prof. Gumus.

She further stressed her commitment to fairness, saying, “Nobody will try me. In any office you hold in this country, people know everything about you. When they know you are firm, they won’t even come near. If I see anything suspicious, I will not allow it.”

Prof. Gumus also highlighted her proactive approach to overseeing the election process. “Since we started this process, I am on the platform with the EOCs every day. Every few minutes, I check in to see what’s happening. If there is anything wrong, I correct it. That’s what I’ve been doing,” she explained.
