Edo: How Voters Turned Thugs Away In Benin (Video)

Political thugs faced severe resistance from voters at Edokpolo Grammar School, Ward 7, In Benin City, Edo State. during the ongoing governorship election. The election is being held across all 18 local government areas of Edo State on Saturday, September 21.

The main candidates in the race are Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Barrister Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party. They are all competing to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The situation turned violent when some political thugs tried to disrupt the voting process at the polling unit. However, they were quickly confronted and overpowered by the voters, who refused to be intimidated.

A video shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), by @AIT_Online showed voters chasing and beating the thugs. A police officer present at the scene was unable to control the crowd as they took matters into their own hands.

Earlier, the Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata, mentioned that he had received reports of issues in various parts of the state. He assured that the Labour Party would continue to monitor the situation closely before making an official statement.
