The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly spreading false information about the alleged withdrawal of its governorship candidate in Edo State, Dr Asue Ighodalo from the race

In a press statement released, the PDP dismissed the rumors that Ighodalo had withdrawn from the race describing it as a desperate attempt by the APC to mislead the public ahead of Saturday’s Edo polls.

The PDP accused the APC of engaging in pre-election propaganda, labeling it a sign of the ruling party’s fear of imminent defeat. According to the statement signed by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the APC and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, are rattled by Dr. Ighodalo’s rising popularity and widespread support across Edo State.

“The APC’s resort to circulating fake news about Dr. Asue Ighodalo just days before the election is a clear indication of their panic. The people of Edo have overwhelmingly embraced our candidate, and it’s obvious that the APC is terrified of the outcome,” the PDP said.

In the statement, the PDP further exposed the APC’s alleged attempt to falsify official documents, claiming the opposition had used a fake letterhead and incorrect logo to imitate PDP communications. The party dismissed the move as a “despicable act” that only serves to highlight the APC’s desperation.

“By attempting to forge our letterhead and the signatures of our Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, the APC has once again shown its penchant for deceit and lies. They have failed miserably, even making a mockery of themselves by using the wrong logo,” the statement continued.

The PDP emphasized that Dr. Asue Ighodalo remains firmly in the race for the September 21 election, reaffirming the party’s confidence in his victory. It also warned the APC against further attempts to manipulate or disrupt the election process.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Asue Ighodalo is still very much in the governorship race. He enjoys massive support from the people of Edo State, and no amount of propaganda, lies, or intimidation from the APC can alter his path to victory,” the party declared.

The PDP also called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the APC members responsible for spreading the false information, specifically mentioning one Aye S. O. Egberi, a self-confessed director of the group “APC All The Way,” who reportedly circulated the fake materials on social media.

Finally, the PDP urged the people of Edo State to remain vigilant and ensure their voices are heard in the upcoming election, expressing confidence that Ighodalo will secure a decisive victory.

“The people of Edo are determined, and no amount of APC mischief can stop their will from prevailing,” the statement concluded in affirming the full participation of Ighodalo in the race.
